According to Lord Krishna, Peepal is a tree with roots in upward direction and braches downward. Peepal is believed to belong to the category of astringent medicines and is quite useful in pacifying bleeding from different parts of the body. It is also effective in healing wounds, checking excessive urination, pacifying burning sensation and curing diarrhoea. Peepal is considered a holy tree in India and even in Burma, China, Indonesia and Japan. All the parts of this tree are quite useful for curing a number of ailments and diseases. The bark of this tree not only helps in checking excessive urine but is also useful in stabilising fetus and in improving sexual power. It is also the most effective drug for women suffering from infertility.


Medicinal Uses of Ficus Religiosa

The Peepal tree has a number of healing and relieving powers and they are as follows:

  • Traditionally, it has been used for relieving more than 50 different varieties of disorders including diabetes, diarrhoea, inflammatory disorders, epilepsy, infectious and sexual disorders and gastric issues.
  • The bark and the leaves of the Peepal tree can be used for controlling diarrhoea and dysentery.
  • The leaves can also be used for relieving constipation.
  • The powder of the Peepal fruit can cure asthma.
  • Latex of the Peepal tree is useful in curing warts.
  • The leaves of Peepal can be coated in clarified butter and applied in the form of poultice for healing swollen salivary glands and boils.
  • The bark of the Peepal tree is effective in healing earache, bone fractures, scabies, glandular diseases, skin diseases and soreness of the mouth.
  • The infusion of decoction of the Peepal bark can be used for curing gonorrhoea when used with honey.
  • Vomiting can be controlled and obstinate cases of hiccups can also be controlled by using the freshly burnt ashes of Peepal bark and mixing it with water.
  • The oil made from Peepal bark can be used externally for healing skin diseases such as eczema and leprosy.
