Types of Diabetes:
Type-1 Diabetes: A condition where the body does not produce insulin. Type-1 diabetes is less common, and only 10% of all cases are reported to be type-1. People with such health condition have to take prescribed insulin injections, follow a special diet, and ensure that blood glucose level is normal.
Type-2 Diabetes: This is the most common type of diabetes, with approximately 90% of all cases reported to be Type-2. In Type-2 diabetes, the body is unable to produce sufficient insulin to ensure proper functioning, or the body cells do not respond to insulin properly. Unlike Type-1, the body does produce insulin in case of Type-2 diabetes, but either the body is insulin resistant or the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin. This causes glucose to build up in blood rather than going to the cells. Hence, the cells are unable to function properly, causing several health conditions in human beings.
Gestational Diabetes: Gestational diabetes affects women during their pregnancy, which can be controlled with prescribed medications, diet and exercise. However, undiagnosed and untreated gestational diabetes may raise risk of various complications during child birth.
