Plantar fasciitis causes a stabbing pain in the foot near the heel. It is triggered after getting up from a seated position or by long periods of standing.

Causes of Plantar Fasciitis:
- Obese people or gaining sudden weight contributes to the development of plantar fasciitis. Pregnant women during the latter stages are likely to develop this disease.
- People with active job, who are on their foot all the time, like factory worker or restaurant server or runner.
- Those with foot problems like high arches or flat foot are prone to develop plantar fasciitis.
Ayurvedic Treatment of Plantar Fasciitis:
- Stop wearing ill fitting shoes.
- Minimize activities causing foot pain and avoid running on hard surfaces.
- Massage the Mahanarayana oil for good results.
- Fat can be burnt by having water with honey, consumption of barley, avoiding hard digesting and cold food.
- Dry powder massage, known as Rooksha Udvartana, using herbs like horse gram, black gram etc.are used to burn the fat in the thigh, area, buttocks and stomach.
Calcaneal Spur:
Calcaneal spur or heel spur or commonly called corn, is a small bone spur or osteophyte, that is located on the calcaneus or heel bone. They are detected by a radiological examination (X-ray). With constant stress,calcium deposits on the bottom of heel bone.
Causes of Calcaneal Spur:
- Uses of hard foot wear
- Walking on irregular surface and prolonged standing or walking causes calcaneal spur formation.
- Flat footed, obese and those wearing high heels are likely to develop heel spur.
Symptoms of Calcaneal Spur:
Major symptoms consist of pain in the region surrounding the spur, which typically increases in intensity after prolonged periods of rest. Patients may report heel pain to be more severe when waking up in the morning. Patients may not be able to bear weight on the afflicted heel comfortably. Running, walking, or lifting heavy weight may exacerbate the issue.
Additional Ayurvedic Treatment:
- Having a mixture of Sphatika Bhasm (potassium alum 0.5 gm) with honey twice a day and Punarnava powder (spreading hogweed 1gm) with warm water or milk twice a day.
- Have Dashmularisht (4tsp) twice a day for 1-2 months.
- Use of soft footwear.
- Ice pack helps to relieve the pain quickly.
