Appamarg, is a common weed which is distributed throughout the tropical region. Traditionally, the plant is used for various treatments especially in gynaecology and obstetrics mainly to induce labor, to induce abortion and to stop post-partum bleeding. A tribe in Kenya use this herb as a folk medicine in treating malaria.
This is considered a powerful herb in Ayurveda used especially in preparation of Kshara which is used in treating haemorrhoid mass and fistula. It supports the digestive system in many aspects due to its hot potency. It is an excellent medicine which regulates the body metabolism by stimulating body’s fire component. Being a source of potassium, it helps to protect the heart functioning. In Ayurveda, it is used in pacifying or treating three kinds of doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Usually the whole plant is used in preparing medicines and can be used to treat below health issues.
