Haritaki, botanically known as Terminalia Chebula, is a deciduous tree native to southern parts of Asia. It is also called Harad, Hareer and Aralu. It grows up to 30 meters and its leaves are oval in shape. It is an Ayurvedic herb which is mostly used for curing Vata disorders. For curing different disorders, it is used as a home remedy along with different eatables. For vitiating Kapha, it can be consumed with rock salt. You can have it with sugar for curing Pitta disorders.
Haritaki is mildly laxative in nature. It helps in improving digestion and gives a healthy digestive system by acting as an aid in removal of toxic waste and urine. It has also been used in cases of chronic diarrhea.
It has been used as tooth powder, as it is known to strengthen gums. It is helpful in case of cough and asthma as well and can also be used to cure bad throat by gargling its powder with water. Skin disorders like itching can also be cured by using Haritaki. Apart from all its medicinal uses, it can also be useful in reducing the side effects of oily and fat rich food as a dietary supplement.
