Rudanti is a medicinal shrub with the scientific name of Cressa cretica, which is mainly found in saline and sandy soil. With evident analgesic, expectorant and tonic properties, rudanti is a useful plant for the treatment of dyspepsia, flatulence, asthma and bronchitis. Also known with the name Rudravanti, it is a rejuvenating herb with eminent medicinal qualities.


Properties of Rudravanti

In the world of Ayurveda medicines, Rudanti is believed to have anti-tubercular qualities, and the plant has been widely accepted as an essential anti-tubercular herb among various Ayurvedic physicians. The herb has been found to show promising results when used with other multiple drugs in the treatment of tuberculosis.


It has also been discovered that Rudanti works well in curing fever and common cold accompanied by respiratory infections. It acts as a mucolytic and eradicates microbial growth and decreases inflammation. Keeping these qualities in mind, the herb can be used when the patient has high-level mucus secretion, chest congestion, wheezing and gets some relief after bringing out the sputum from the respiratory tract or lungs.

It is believed to decrease nasal congestion, fever, and sneezing due to the common cold. It is also useful in reducing headache and body ache.


With anti-inflammatory properties, the herb helps in the reduction of inflammation in the linings of the inner bronchial tubes and vehemently decreases breathing problems in asthma. It is advised to use the herb with warm water or honey in case of excess mucus secretion, but if the mucus secretion is normal, it is advised to be taken along with hot milk.


The herb works wonders in treating tuberculostatic activity and is believed to have strong anti-bacterial properties. It manages to reduce the growth of the bacteria name Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, thereby acting as a bacterial agent as well as a bacteriostatic.


Rudanti’s anti-hemorrhagic property helps to decrease postpartum hemorrhage and in the prevention of nasal bleeding. It provides the best results when used with Adhatoda Vasica leaf juice.
