Yashad or Zinc Bhasma is an Ayurvedic medicine prepared from Zinc and used in the treatment of diabetes, anaemia, eye disorders, asthma, cough, and many more. Yashad or Yashada (also referred to as Jasad, Jasada) is recommended as the treatment of choice in case of diabetes. Modern medicine also recognizes the role of zinc or Yashada in glucose homeostasis.
Jasad or Zinc also boosts the immune system and may help in the treatment of recurring common cold and ear infections. In Ayurvedic treatment of malaria and other parasitic diseases, Yashad is used.
Usage of Yashada Bhasma
Uses of Jasad or Yashad Bhasm are varied in Ayurvedic medication. Some of the most practised uses are:
- It is coolant, astringent, and pungent.
- Yashad is used in the treatment of bronchitis, asthma, night sweating, menorrhagia, non-healing wounds, eye problems, anaemia, tremors, etc.
- Effective in gonorrhoea and urinary constraint
- It is very effective in vata and grahanj.
- Doctors prescribe Yashad or Yasad in treatment of:
- Hair fall, baldness
- Zinc deficiency
- Diarrhoea in children
- Common cold
- Skin diseases and allergies
Effect of Yashad on tridosha is – it balances Kapha and Pitta.

Side Effects of Yashada Bhasma
Yashada Bhasma should not be used for a prolonged period and it may not be safe to self-medicate with Yashad Bhasm. Unregulated use can result in -
- Nausea
- Puking
- Exhaustion
- Stomach ache
- Metallic after-taste for a long time
