Natural Ayurvedic Remedies for Stress Relief

Ath Ayurdhamah

Summary: - Every year the number of people suffering from mental agony and stress is constantly rising. The problems related to stress are not confined within the mind and they have a direct consequence on the body giving rise to many fatal diseases. Mental problems and stress can be classified into two wide categories, namely Nija and Agantu. These categories define the origin of the problem and how it affects an individual.

Mental problems can be solved by opting for a Panchakarma therapy, which involves various types of body and head massage aimed to relax the body. This therapy is combined with Rasayana therapies which help to boost the effects of the Panchakarma therapy. While opting for Ayurvedic treatment, you must know that it is based upon the concept of holistic healing for an effective result.

Every year around 80 million people are prescribed with medicines which are meant for mental problems. The fact that these numbers haven’t changed or reduced speaks a lot about the failure of prescription drugs in solving problems related to the mind.

The Ayurvedic approach to the mind is quite different from any other branch of medicine known to mankind. Ayurveda believes that the problems and their solutions do not lie in the outside circumstances. The solution of all our problems lies inside our own mind. The manas and buddhi should be clean and free from the residue of any past experiences if a person truly wants to get healed.

In Ayurveda, mental diseases are commonly categorised into two segments namely Endogenous or Nija and Exogenous or Agantu.

Endogenous
People suffering from nija problems often indulge in unhealthy food habits and are constantly plagued by negative emotions like fear, ingratitude, grief, hypocrisy, envy and so on.

Exogenous
A person usually suffers from an exogenous mental problem when he experiences a sudden mental shock in the form of loss of money, spouse or children. Patients, who are regularly exposed to the harmful effects of medicines like chemotherapy, are also at a greater risk of exogenous mental problems.

Here is a list of various natural remedies for stress using Ayurvedic Therapies

Panchakarma Therapies
The aim of this therapy is to pull out all poisonous substances out from the body and improve the overall blood circulation. This process is believed to purge the mind and the body of all kinds of negative energy which leads to stress.

Shirodhara
This is a very relaxing and soothing experience, where mildly warm medicinal oil is poured on the forehead of the individual. The vessel is hanged right above the head and the steady stream of mild hot oil provides an extremely relaxing and soothing sensation. This herbal remedy for stress helps a person to calm down and feel more relaxed.

Thailadahara
This is another Panchakarma method, which also aims to relieve a person from mental stress. In this method, the whole body of the person is massaged with herbal oil which contains multiple medicinal properties. These herbs help the body to relax and help to remove the toxins from the skin.

Snehapanam
Unlike the other two procedures, snehapanam aims to restore the balance in a person’s mind and body by feeding him a mixture of ghee along with a combination of herbs like sandalwood, Neem, Amlaki, gooseberry, and asparagus.

Rasayana Therapies

Rasayana therapies help to cleanse the body after the Panchakarma therapies are performed. Rasayana therapies involve administering drugs made purely from herbs and natural products. The patient is asked to follow a vegetarian diet, as per Ayurvedic norms. Abstinence from all kinds of sweet, salty and intoxicating food or drinks is encouraged.

In Ayurveda, dealing with problems related to stress or the various dosha includes an all-round and complete approach. The aim of Ayurvedic medicines is to re-establish the emotional, psychological and spiritual balance in a human being. It is important to understand the bigger picture while opting for a natural remedy for stress. Everything in this cosmos is tied to one another by a chain and the obstacles which you face in your daily life are there only to help you to evolve as a better human being.
